The Sounds of European Trains

There is nothing that "takes you back" to a favorite train moment in Europe like the sound of European trains.  Long-time Great Event Tours customer Dave Thomson has taken several hours' worth of digital audio recordings.  He has generously offered to share some with the internet community.

That's Dave "Yellowjacket" Thomson catching some shots of our BR41 at Donauwörth

These files are in .wma format, which we find to be the best possible quality in the smallest possible size.  They are best enjoyed if you right-click on the titles and use your "save as" option to save them to your hard drive.  This way, you can enjoy them over and over again...

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of Europe (trains, that is!)...

RECORDING 1 (416 KB):  A fast passenger train races through Göppingen without stopping on November 27, 2001...

RECORDING 2 (1.4 MB): A long freight train pulls to a stop on a siding in Göppingen, November 27, 2001...

RECORDING 3 (1.8 MB): A passenger train passes, and the freight pulls out again...

On the following day, the group rode in a chartered excursion train to Ansbach, pulled by this class 41 steam locomotive.

RECORDING 5 (371 KB): Our steam train departs Nördlingen

RECORDING 6 (1.2 MB): After switching ends, we leave Donauwörth

Dave also joined the 2002 Messe trip to Cologne, where he recorded nearly an hour at the Cologne station on November 11.

RECORDING 7 (2.2MB): Sounds of Cologne station

Finally, here is our "alarm clock" from outside our hotel in Göppingen on November 28, 2001...

RECORDING 8 (600KB):  7:00 a.m. wake-up call...

My personal thanks to Dave for making these great recordings!
